Apologies for my delayed reply, I’ve been tied up with some urgent stuff the past couple of weeks.

I’ve now gone and disabled all plug-ins not installed with the theme and created some test posts with media inserted. Even with those few plug-ins disabled the problem persists. The behavior is very bizarre — occasionally it’ll work and the image will be linked, but most times it won’t if there’s a caption for the image.

I’m stumped, but I’d really, really like to solve this.

Sorry, and WordPress Jetpack, too, but that is also installed on my other site without issue. I’m stumped.

Thank you, Andrea. Yes indeed it’s set to media file. I’ve used another WP installation for another website for many years, without this issue. This is a new install, so the only third-party plugins I’ve installed are “Ad Inserter” and “NextGEN Gallery,” the latter is also installed on the other site that I’m using without this issue.
